ABOUT THE ROLE Our Researchers analyze pre-existing literature on youth empowerment to guide the development of our programs and other youth-targeted nonprofits. This area intersects heavily with the psychological development in the adolescent phase, as well as the cultural and societal influences on pre- and post-pubescent youth. REQUIREMENTS Prior academic experience required. Preferred in the fields of psychology, sociology, education, political science, or related subjects. Undergraduate or beyond.     < Back Aidan Lin appointed by California Senate to new state-wide Youth Empowerment Commission Wednesday, January 18, 2023 Our Time to Act United On January 18th, the California Senate Rules Committee confirmed their appointment of Aidan Lin, Executive Director of Our Time to Act (OTTA) United, to the brand new state-wide Youth Empowerment Commission. “The California Youth Empowerment Commission is an exciting new opportunity to improve communication and meaningful collaboration between California’s youth and the state Legislature, Superintendent of Public Instruction, and Governor,” summarized Toni Atkins, leader of the California State Senate, in a press release . Senator Atkins commended Mr. Lin for his work and experiences and said he will “no doubt be essential to the Commission during its formative years.” Our Time to Act United is extremely proud to hear of Mr. Lin’s involvement in the new commission. To date, he is the first California Youth Empowerment Commissioner in the state’s history.   • Muskaan Gupta

    < Back Muskaan Gupta Administration Intern Muskaan (she/her) is a sophomore at the University of California, Berkeley, intending on studying Business Administration and Molecular and Cell Biology. She is passionate about health equity and hopes to pursue a career in which she may work to address it. She has a strong public health background and has been involved in Partners in Health Engage, through which she met with legislators to educate and convince them to support global health equity legislation. She also served as a Youth Advisory Council Alumni Member at FACES for the Future Coalition where she fought for representation of marginalized communities in healthcare professions and general accessibility to healthcare. In her free time, she loves to check out new coffee shops where she always gets her regular (an iced dirty chai latte and an almond croissant). She also enjoys doing calligraphy and paint-by-numbers but has recently been getting back into reading. ABOUT THE ROLE The Assistant Director of Local Leaders directs the Local Leaders program, a hands-on community project designed to empower high school students in partnership with Title 1 schools. They are responsible for coordination between the Local Leader program’s Site Coordinators, Program Managers, and members. Additionally, they oversee our middle school tutoring program. REQUIREMENTS Prior relevant experience preferred. Demonstrates ability to develop a curriculum and guide the development of a target audience. Exemplifies strong leadership qualities. High school student or beyond. 8-10 hours, 2-3 meetings a week. Our scheduling is highly flexible. Values cooperation, creativity, growth-mindset. Exhibits organization, diligence, and dedication.     < Back OTTA United helps pass Community Planning Group Reform at San Diego City Council Tuesday, September 13, 2022 Aidan Lin, Executive Director On Tuesday, September 13th, 2022, the San Diego City Council passed instrumental community planning group (CPG) reform at the urging of OTTA United, Circulate San Diego, and other groups. Youth and student leaders from OTTA United played an influential part in providing firsthand testimony of the exclusionary structures and behaviors of CPGs in support of the much-needed reform.   • Abbey Reuter

    < Back Abbey Reuter Vice President Abbey currently works for Supervisor Nathan Fletcher at the County of San Diego Board of Supervisors as a Policy Associate for land use and environment as well as youth issues. She previously served for a year and a half as a Community Representative for Supervisor Fletcher. Her other experiences include working with the San Diego City Council as a Management Intern in District 7 and serving as the Associate Vice President of Local Affairs in student government at UC San Diego. Abbey had also previously served as the Advocacy Director for Our Time to Act United and was thrilled to continue working with this amazing team as a board member.   • Oliver Lin

    < Back Oliver Lin Board Director Oliver has lived in Boston, Chicago, Denver, and Los Angeles but considers the Bay Area home. He is a Stanford and Harvard trained clinical psychologist and has returned to Stanford University to serve as Operations Director at Counseling and Psychological Services, teach courses in Asian American Studies, supervise the next generation of psychologists, and provide outreach workshops and trainings.   • Nicholas Tappin

    < Back Nicholas Tappin Policy & Coalition Representative Nicholas (Nic) Tappin (he/him) is a Political Science student at the University of California San Diego. He has been a San Diego native his entire life, where in his free time he serves as the Legislative Director for the University of California San Diego Associated Students Office of External Affairs. He also serves as a dedicated Board Member of the UC Student Association and as the Vice President of External Relations of the Pre-Law Coalition of UC San Diego. Nicholas has lobbied members of Congress and California state legislators on bills directly impacting students' housing, higher education accessibility, and food insecurity. Nicholas officially joined Our Time To Act in January of 2024 as the Policy and Coalition Representative.     < Back Apurv Gupta Director of Services Apurv (he/him) officially joined Our Time To Act in 2020 as a Presidential Aid and transitioned through several different roles and responsibilities before becoming Director of Services in December 2021. Position responsibilities: Assist in creating engaging and visually appealing content for social media platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn Schedule and publish social media posts according to the content calendar, ensuring consistent and timely delivery of content Monitor and engage with our social media audience by responding to comments, messages, and mentions, fostering a positive and interactive online community Track and analyze key social media metrics using tools like Facebook Insights and Instagram Insights. Prepare regular reports summarizing performance and provide recommendations for improvement Stay up-to-date with social media trends, emerging platforms, and best practices. ABOUT THE ROLE As a member of the advocacy team, the policy analyst will be responsible for tracking San Diego municipal policy issues/debates. In 2022, the policy analyst will focus on affordable housing advocacy and the city budget. REQUIREMENTS Position Responsibilities: Track important bills/initiatives related to the San Diego City Council/Board of Supervisors Potential responsibilities include: Attending city council/board of supervisors meetings Reviewing meeting minutes and recordings of previous city council/board of supervisors meetings Reviewing and compiling list of related news articles and op-eds Quantitative/Qualitative analysis of potential impact on youth (aged 15-24) and the community at large Attend staff meetings Collaborate with the Director of Advocacy to write policy briefs/position papers Additional duties as assigned. Experience & Education: High school diploma required. Current undergraduate students are preferred. Previous experience in qualitative research is preferred.
