ABOUT THE ROLE Reporting to the Associate Executive Director, the main responsibility of the Director of Operations and People is to optimize the efficiency and effectiveness of OTTA United’s team, systems, and processes. JOB DESCRIPTION The Director of Operations and People drafts, revises, and enforces workflows and policies that guide the way OTTA United conducts its work. Key job responsibilities include: Drafting, revising, and enforcing workflows Analyzing and improving task efficiency Performing administrative tasks that maintain function Generally managing the internal, day-to-day work of the nonprofit Boosting team cohesion, collaboration, and morale Hire and onboard new members REQUIREMENTS DREAM ROLE This is the dream role for someone who is skilled at identifying and solving problems, understand systems work, and can lead the enforcement of processes in a kind, understanding, and empathetic way. Additionally, this role targets those who are looking to kick-start a career in organization management, human resources, project management, or business administration and strategy. Key skillsets may include: Problem-solving, Authoring and enforcing policy Evaluating and improving systems of work A focus on efficiency and efficacy Being an empathetic leader EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Previous operations-related experience is required, with preference given to individuals with experience in youth or youth-related issues. A high school diploma is preferred, although not required if a candidate has exemplary youth operational experience. WORK MODALITY & LOCATION The work modality of this role is either hybrid or remote. Work is welcome in person at OTTA United’s office is located in San Diego, California (3252 Holiday Court Ste 103, San Diego, CA 92037), but it is not required. They compile internal information to create communiqués, document interesting instances of youth action or areas of youth need, and share this information through social media, news organizations, and on our website. REQUIREMENTS Prior experience preferred. Must be demonstrate ability to engage others through writing. High school student or beyond. 6-8 hours, 1-2 meetings a week. Our scheduling is highly flexible. Values cooperation, creativity, growth-mindset. Exhibits organization, diligence, and dedication. Passion for youth empowerment. < Back Manu Agni Board Director Manu Agni (he/him) is a transit advocate, transportation planning student at UC San Diego, and a Board member at youth empowerment nonprofit Our Time to Act. At UC San Diego, he has served as Student Body President, helping manage the U-PASS transit program and advocacy for thousands of students. In these roles, he has worked to help develop extension transportation choices for students and young people in San Diego, including walking, bicycling, and easy transit access. < Back Ken Fesler Secretary Ken (he/him/his) is an Economics and Political Science student at the University of California, Davis. He officially joined Our Time To Act in June 2020 and became Associate Executive Director in January 2021. As Associate Executive Director, Ken takes the lead on systems management and employee development, including interdepartmental policies, employee one-on-ones, and performance reviews. Prior to joining OTTA and while still in high school, Ken was a Shift Lead at a local tea shop, the most senior staff member on site trusted with running the store efficiently and without waste. Throughout this, he maintains his driven dedication to scholastic success - he was a high school valedictorian and is now a Regent Scholar and university honors student. < Back Gabrielle Darisme Ethics & Policy Chair Gabrielle Darisme is a freshman at Barnard College of Columbia University in New York City. Although undecided on her major, she strives to pursue an interdisciplinary focus and is interested in environmental science, biology, public health, and international policy. Gabrielle is an avid world traveler and has completed internships in Belize, Costa Rica, and South Africa. She has been a dedicated member of the Our Time To Act family since her Junior Year of High School. ABOUT THE ROLE Reporting to the Executive Director, or the Senior Director of Programs if hired, the Director of Organizing is responsible for finishing the design and launching the Civic Youth Action Network (CYAN). In the future, the Director of Organizing may have a team of direct reports. JOB DESCRIPTION The Director of Organizing will launch and run CYAN, OTTA United’s flagship program and primary way of organizing youth. CYAN identifies, recruits, and equips youth organizers with the ability to change their communities — after youth act, they are uplifted into leadership opportunities at CYAN. Key job responsibilities include: Garnering support for CYAN from community nonprofits, funders, and youth Launching CYAN's first local/regional location in San Diego Spearheading program design (building upon the current framework) and implementation Selecting and leading a local/regional program team Working directly with CYAN members in trainings, organizing campaigns, and increasing membership Coordinating with the OTTA United team, including the Senior Director of Programs, Executive Director, and Board of Directors REQUIREMENTS DREAM ROLE This is the dream role for someone with a strong understanding of organizing, a passion for serving youth, and a commitment to building a successful program from scratch. < Back Janice Park Board Director Janice is a current student at the University of California, Irvine studying Public Health Policy. Her primary mission in life is to fight for equity, particularly in the field of health and wellness. Janice initially became involved with Our Time To Act's pandemic response as the Student Response Initiative Regional Director of Health. As the former Executive Director for Students Against Period Poverty, she now works as a Senior Advisor for the nonprofit she co-founded, partnering with schools and shelters to make menstrual products accessible.
